Xian grunted, pain wasn’t anything new to him or any of his crew. In the last twenty years, they’d jumped from realm to realm, looking for a gate that would get them to Earth. Finally, they’d found the one back to The Mist, which they knew held a gate home, back to their families. If he ended up dying, in the first place they fled all those years ago, he’d haunt all their asses.

“You’re not going to die, you drama king,” Liv muttered.

“I’m pretty sure I’m dead, and you’re abusing a dead wolf.” He didn’t open his eyes, taking in the unfamiliar smells surrounding him.

“If you were dead, I’d beat you back to life, and then I’d kill you. But since you ain’t dead, get your lazy ass up so we can move, brother.”

He lifted his arm off his eyes, blinking a couple times before Jagger appeared in his line of sight. “Why are you in my face like that?”

Jagger flicked him in the forehead once then again. “You tried to get killed, dumbass.”

“Really, you can’t even let him almost die without being...you?” Enzley slapped Jagger’s hand away from Xian.

He thought about letting the brother and sister continue to hit one another, but he was pretty sure they’d end up hurting him in the process. With lightning-fast reflexes, he grabbed Enzley’s hand and Jagger’s at the same time, throwing them backward in opposite directions.

“See, told you he’d live. Now come on, let’s get off this damn realm and back to Earth or Fey. I don’t care which,” Rebel whispered, her husky tone held a hitch in it that belied the fact she’d been crying.

Xian kicked his legs back, jumping up into a standing position effortlessly. His crew leapt backward, some falling onto their own asses at his explosive move they clearly hadn’t expected. All except Liv who stood with her arms crossed, a smile on her face. Yeah, she’d known he wasn’t going to stay down for an extended period. Of course, he wasn’t sure how long he’d been out.

“Do you know where the jump gate is located, Liv?” he asked, ready to get the fuck outta the hell hole they were in. He wasn’t sure how the others could stand the stench of rot now that he was awake, it was damn near impossible for him to breathe without wanting to gag.

“It’s because your senses are still raw, Xi. You’ll temper in time. As for the gate, it’s right over there on the other side of the cave.” Liv pointed toward the East.

Jagger and Jaxon took the lead with Cannon and him falling to the rear, like they always did. Liv took to the sky, her form becoming mist. It was the only one of her forms they hadn’t been able to duplicate. They took their time, moving as a unit while each of them scanned for danger. Xian felt no vibrations, no heartbeat that wasn’t one of theirs within the vicinity. However, he wasn’t willing to drop his guard, not this close to their goal.
